Matangi School was established in 1910 in the Public Hall with a roll of 49. It was not until 1917 however, that a school was built. In 1911 its position next to the new Glaxo Factory was considered unsuitable and it was jacked up and hand winched to it's present site. Since then two more classrooms and a dental clinic (which is now a resource area) have been added. A new library was constructed in 1998.
The School had an extensive re-model internally in the mid 1990’s and the magnificent 20 metre school pool has had extensive work carried out on it.
The school is fortunate to have an experienced stable staff, who show a genuine commitment to their work and to the children in their care.
The learning programmes within the school are well resourced. A language rich environment is actively encouraged. Each class has at least two computer work stations and two laptops. In 2000, we installed a network of linked computers. These are now being fully utilised throughout the whole school. The school is committed to increasing the number of computers to aid in the students learning.
The School is well supported by a hard working and dedicated Board of Trustees. The Board is the official link between the school community, the School and the Ministry of Education.
The Fundraising Committee, as an extension of the Board of Trustees plays a very important role in the running of the School. They provide support in terms of funding and promoting projects along with providing a forum for Parents and School to share ideas on the schooling process. They are a very integral part of the success of our school.
I commend our School to you as a place committed to providing a secure, caring and positive environment in which each child is encouraged to realise his/her unique potential and acquire the basic skills essential for a lifetime of learning.
Peter Aim,
Principal
