Online Learning

Kia Ora Koutou Katoa – Hello to you all,

I hope that you are all holding up during this changeable and unpredictable climate that we are in. I want to reassure you that our school staff and board will continue to be available to support your child’s learning and wellbeing in the coming days.

Matangi School Online Learning Programmes:

  • Teachers have tasks set up via Seesaw, Google Docs, or Google Classrooms.
  • We will have tasks that the teachers would like your child to complete (MUST DO) and tasks that you may choose to do (CAN DO).
  • Teachers will be checking their emails and student’s responses between 9am-3pm. They will be posting a daily post via Seesaw – a morning greeting and anything else that they wish to share with you.
  • Please do not fell obligated to do all the tasks, if any. We know how important family time is and also value the opportunities that you set up for your children to learn away from a device or formalised school work.
  • We will have one weekly Zoom Meeting per class each week – times and days have been timetabled by the teachers so there aren’t any clashes.

Remember that this may change, as our situation changes. You will also understand the importance of routine for your family. If your routine has been shaken up, it’s good to structure your time. Routines are reassuring and promote health and physical wellbeing. Also, please take this time to spend time together with your family.

We also hope you are doing OK at the moment – but it is also OK if you aren’t.

As the Mental Health Foundation of NZ says, “it’s all right to feel a range of emotions right now. Being at Level 4 lockdown is a big deal and it brings all sorts of different feelings to the surface, including frustration, worry, and even gratitude. However you are feeling, know that you’re not alone – we’re all going through this together.”

If you need to talk, check in with a friend or whānau member. You can also free call/text 1737 to chat with a trained counsellor. It’s free and confidential. There are also a lot of other supports available to you, your whānau and your community if needed. Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you are needing support from Matangi School – we are in this together.

I will continue to keep you updated, as I receive the updates from the Ministry. I will also send a recording via Seesaw, just to keep in touch with the children.

Nga mihi mahana – Warmest regards,

Helena Kirkham

(Acting Principal)
