ERO

ERO report stands for Education Review Office report. The Education Review Office (ERO) is a New Zealand government agency responsible for evaluating and reporting on the education and care of students in schools and early childhood services.

What is an ERO report?

An ERO report is an official review conducted by ERO teams who visit schools periodically to assess how well the school is doing in areas like:

  • Student learning and achievement

  • Teaching quality and curriculum delivery

  • School leadership and management

  • The school’s environment and culture

  • How well the school meets the needs of its community and students

After their review, ERO publishes a report that highlights strengths and areas for improvement, offering recommendations for the school’s future development.

Why do schools need to do it?

  1. Accountability: Schools receive public funding and are accountable to the government and community for the quality of education they provide.

  2. Improvement: The ERO report identifies what’s working well and what could be better, helping schools focus their efforts on continuous improvement.

  3. Transparency: It provides parents, caregivers, and the wider community with independent, objective information about the school.

  4. Compliance: Schools must meet certain national standards and regulations; the ERO review checks if they are doing so.
