Student Reporting Information

This year, as a staff, we have been working on our localised curriculum.  A curriculum that is drived from the NZ Curriculum, but enables us, as a school to allow our school values, learning phiolopshy and community spirit to be alive.  Our Learner Profile, shared during Term 2 Learning Conversation is the foundation document that caputres the areas of learning we are developing with our children. Thinking through a critically, creatively, and caring lens, using the core curriculum areas to think critically, to think creatively and to think in a caring way.

During Term 2 you will receive via email your child’s progress report, as a PDF.  To provide a meaningful report for students and parents we have created a new format specifically for this year.

In this report we have captured your child’s achievements, goal and next steps.  We have specifically designed the format and information to link with our Matangi School Learner Profile.   The following information is to give you an example of the types of capabilities and capacities we have been focusing on.    You will see the following headings:

Transitional Capabilities and Capacities

Thinking as a Mathematician across the curriculum

Thinking as a Reader across the curriculum

Thinking as a Writer across the curriculum

Alongside Thinking as a Mathematician, Reader, and a Writer you will see the words Caring, Critical, Creative.

We see these three concepts as the building blocks of a Matangi thinker and a communicator – can you think/communicate in a creative way, or a caring way or in a critical way?

The comments on the report are from your child’s teacher as well as examples of what your child has wanted to share.  The next step in the reporting back process for this year is the Student-Led Conferences.  These provide your child with an opportunity to share their evidence and examples of the goals and achievements you will have read about in the report.

We are currently working on establsihing a more streamline approach to our reporting. We are transitioining from a formal report to using Hero as our whole school platform. Hero will not only provide an ongoing and updated report on your child, it will also allow you to see notices, enter in absentees, and keep updated on school events.
